RESUMEN

Tumor-derived exosomes (TDEs) play critical roles in many aspects of cancer progression. There have been several advances in cancer immunotherapy in recent years. A major challenge, however, has been addressed to the role of TDEs in tumor cell immune escape through their influence on the antitumor immunity of natural killer (NK) cells, a key type of immune cell. In this review, we present our overview of the effects of different TDEs on NK cell activation and NK cell toxicity. Studies on mechanism suggest that TDEs mainly affect the immune response of NK cells by inhibiting activated receptors on the surface of NK cells and downregulating the NK recognition ligand MICA/B on the tumor cell surface. In addition, a summary was documented on how to restore the cytotoxicity of NK cells and improve the drug's ability to recognize tumor cells, and a detailed explanation was also provided on the mechanism of action of the drug.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of anti-Sa antibody and anti-carbonylated protein (CarP) antibody for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: A retrospective selection of 180 patients with RA who came to Qinghai Provincial People's Hospital from September 2022 to February 2023. Grouped according to the Disease Activity Score of 28 joints (DAS28), 101 of them were patients with RA in high activity (RAH group), 24 males and 77 females, aged 18-79 (53.2±12.2), and 79 patients with RA in low activity (RAL group), 23 males and 56 females, aged 24-78 (49.0±12.9).A total of 90 patients with other autoimmune diseases in the hospital in the same period were choosed as the other immune disease group, and 90 healthy physical examiners were as the healthy control group. The levels of serum anti-Sa and anti-CarP antibodies were measured by ELISA, RF by immunoscattering turbidimetry, anti-CCP by chemiluminescence, and ESR by Weil's method in four groups of patients. The area under the subject operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) was applied to assess the sensitivity and specificity of each index alone or in combination for the diagnosis of RA. Results: In the RAH group, RAL group, other immune disease group, and healthy control group, the RF levels were 117.6 (61.0, 161.1), 92.7 (48.1, 92.7), 10.1 (5.3, 24.6), and 8.1 (6.0, 12.8) U/ml, anti-CCP antibody levels were 202.7 (67.1, 594.4), 212.9 (98.3, 416.2), 9.4 (6.6, 11.8), 1.9 (0.8, 4.9) U/ml, anti-Sa antibody levels were 305.3 (120.4, 614.9), 235.8 (161.6, 336.9), 123.9 (41.8, 240.5), 165.1 (71.1, 237.5) U/ml, and anti-CarP antibody levels were 11.7 (7.9, 21.6), 5.2 (3.3, 7.7), 5.1 (3.9, 6.5), and 5.8 (3.8, 7.5) mg/L, respectively, and their differences were statistically significant (all P<0.001). The level of anti-CarP antibody was higher in the RAH group than in the RAL group (P<0.001), and the difference in anti-Sa antibody was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The critical value of anti-Sa antibody at 181.45 µg/L showed a sensitivity of 67.2%, specificity of 65.6% and AUC of 0.710 (95%CI: 0.645-0.775); The sensitivity was 52.8% and the specificity was 88.9% with an AUC of 0.706 (95%CI: 0.646-0.766) at a critical value of 7.98 U/ml for the anti-CarP antibody. The AUC for the combined RF, anti-CCP antibody and anti-CarP antibody assay was 0.986 (95%CI: 0.977-0.996). Conclusion: Anti-CarP antibody is clinically significant in distinguishing active RA. RF, anti-CCP, and anti-CarP antibodies can be detected together with high AUC results, suggesting the potential for developing an improved method for diagnosing RA.

RESUMEN

Objective: To understand the changes in pain and its effects in patients with the diagnosis of herpes zoster. Methods: A total of 3 487 patients diagnosed with herpes zoster (HZ) for the first time at the outpatient department of Miyun District Hospital from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019, were included in the study. The information of patients was registered and issued with a record card. Patients were required to record the time of pain and rash by themselves. Telephone follow-up was conducted at 21, 90, 180 and 365 days after the onset of rashes, including hospitalization, location of rash and pain, and the time of start and end. The impact of pain on life was evaluated by the Zoster Brief Pain Inventory (ZBPI). Results: The age of 2 999 HZ patients included in the analysis were (53±16) years old, including 1 377 (45.91%) males and 1 903 (63.45%) patients aged 50 years and older. After 21 days of rash, mild, moderate and severe pain accounted for 20.87% (626 cases), 37.98% (1 139 cases) and 33.81% (1 014 cases), respectively. Only 5.07% (152 cases) had no pain or discomfort, and 2.27% (68 cases) had no pain but discomfort. Most of the pain sites were consistent with the rash sites. The chest and back and waist and abdomen were the most common, accounting for 35.58% (1 067 cases) and 29.18% (875 cases), respectively, followed by the limbs and face and neck, accounting for 16.74% (502 cases) and 16.40% (492 cases), respectively. The M (Q1, Q3) of pain days in the HZ patients was 14 (8, 20) days, and the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) was 6.63% (171/2 580) (excluding 419 patients who refused to visit or lost to visit on 90 days after the onset of rash). The pain score of HZ patients within 21 days after the rash was (5.19±2.73) points, and the pain score of PHN patients was (7.61±2.13) points, which was significantly higher than that of non-PHN patients [(5.04±2.69) points] (P<0.001). Daily activities, emotions, walking ability, work, social interaction, sleep and recreation were affected for 21 days after the rash in HZ patients, ranging from 60.79% to 83.83%, with sleep being the most affected (83.83%). The impact scores of pain and life dimensions in PHN patients ranged from 4.59 to 7.61 points on the ZBPI scale, which were higher than those in non-PHN patients (2.49-5.04) (t values ranged from 8.86 to 11.67, all P values <0.001). Conclusion: The proportion of pain in HZ patients after the diagnosis is high, and the pain is more obvious in patients with PHN and HZ patients aged 50 and older, which has a greater impact on their daily lives.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the risk factors of urinary incontinence (UI) in China by using random forest algorithm, and to evaluate the predictive effect of each risk factor on UI. Methods: A baseline survey with a multistage stratified cluster sampling design was conducted between February 2014 and January 2016, and followed up by telephone from June to December 2018. A total of 55 477 adult women from six provinces of China participated the survey. According to the ratio of 1:1, under sampling method was used to randomly select the same number of women as UI from the non UI women. The data were randomly divided into training set and verification set according to 7:3. The training set was used to establish the random forest model, which including the candidate variables with P<0.2 in univariate analysis, and the verification set was used to verify the predictive effects. Results: A total of 30 658 patients (55.26%, 30 658/55 477) completed the follow-up, the median follow-up time was 3.7 years. Among the 24 985 women without UI at baseline, 1 757 (7.03%, 1 757/24 985) had UI at followed up, including 1 117 (4.47%, 1 117/24 985) with stress UI, 243 (0.97%, 243/24 985) with urgency UI and 397 (1.59%, 397/24 985) with mixed UI. When fixed the number of features as 2 and the number of random trees as 300 in the random forest model, the out of bag error rate estimation was the lowest; with such parameter settings, the classification accuracy was 64.3%, the sensitivity was 64.2%, and the specificity was 64.4%. The top10 predictive UI factors that screening by the variable importance measure in random forest model were obtained as follows: age, parity, delivery pattern, body mass index (BMI), menopause, history of diabetes, education level, history of pelvic surgery, regions, and marital status. Conclusion: We identified the top10 predictive UI factors that screening by the variable importance in random forest model as follows: age, parity, delivery pattern, BMI, menopause, history of diabetes, education level, history of pelvic surgery, regions, and marital status.

RESUMEN

Ultrafast control of material physical properties represents a rapidly developing field in condensed matter physics. Yet, accessing the long-lived photoinduced electronic states is still in its early stages, especially with respect to an insulator to metal phase transition. Here, by combining transport measurement with ultrashort photoexcitation and coherent phonon spectroscopy, we report on photoinduced multistage phase transitions in Ta2NiSe5. Upon excitation by weak pulse intensity, the system is triggered to a short-lived state accompanied by a structural change. Further increasing the excitation intensity beyond a threshold, a photoinduced steady new state is achieved where the resistivity drops by more than four orders at temperature 50 K. This new state is thermally stable up to at least 350 K and exhibits a lattice structure different from any of the thermally accessible equilibrium states. Transmission electron microscopy reveals an in-chain Ta atom displacement in the photoinduced new structure phase. We also found that nano-sheet samples with the thickness less than the optical penetration depth are required for attaining a complete transition.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore sex difference in height growth and blood pressure (BP) change among Beijing school-age children and adolescents. Methods: Using physical examination data of 70 769 school-age children and adolescents from primary to high school during 2009-2018 in Shunyi District, a longitudinal dataset was formed with completed anthropometrical measurements of height and blood pressure (BP) after individual information linkage. Age-specific height, BP, growth rate of height and BP as well BP growth rate based on age at peak height velocity (PHA) were calculated. Linear mixed-effects model was used to identify sex disparity in the growth rates of height and BP. Results: Height and BP increased with age in both boys and girls, and the mean height and BP of boys were always higher than those of girls, except age group from 10 to 11 years. Sex disparity existed in growth rates of height and BP (P<0.001), which was demonstrated by the interaction item of"sex x age"in linear mixed-effects model. The PHA of boys was 12 years old, which was 2 years later than that of girls, about 10 years old. The curves of BP growth rate with age showed double peaks in both boys and girls. Boys reached the peak BP velocity at 13 years old, 3 years lagging behind that of girls who reached the peak at 10 years old. However, the peak of height and BP velocity of boys were higher than that of girls. The change of BP was highly synchronized in time with the increase of height, after adjusting for the growth rate of height by PHA. BP velocity increased with age before onset of puberty till PHA and then declined. Conclusion: Sex disparity in height growth and BP change among school-age children and adolescents is persistent and significant and the change of BP is highly synchronized in time with the increase of height.

RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the association between blood pressure (BP) and the left ventricular mass (LVM) in children aged 6-8 years. Methods: The participants were from the community-based census-like design child cohort on sensitization, puberty, obesity and cardiovascular risk (PROC) conducted in six public non-boarding primary schools in Shunyi District, Beijing. Repeated three measurements on anthropometrical, M-mode and 2-dimensional (2D) echocardiographic imaging (2D/M ECHO) and blood biochemical assay, and BP measurements were carried out at baseline and follow-up from October 2018 to June 2019. A total of 1 659 children who had repeated BP measurements and cardiac structure information were included in this study. The average value of last two measurements of BP was determined as BP value for analysis. Formula recommended by Devereux was used to calculate the mass of left ventricle. Robust linear regression models were used to explore the association between BP and LVM in different groups. Results: The average age of all patients was (7.10±0.29) years old, including 832 boys (50.15%). Of all, 83.54% (1 386/1 659) were grouped as normal BP with average LVM (58.54±13.33) g, and 16.46% (273/1 659) as elevated BP group with LVM (63.84±15.78) g (P<0.001). The LVM of the normal BP group was lower than elevated BP group in overall participants, boys and girls (P<0.005). Univariate analysis showed that systolic BP was associated with LVM in overall, boys and girls (P<0.001) respectively. While diastolic BP was associated with LVM in overall and girls (P<0.03). Multivariable analysis indicated that the associations between systolic BP and LVM were observed in overall, boys and girls (P<0.05) with the ß (95%CI)=0.14 (0.08, 0.21), 0.18 (0.08, 0.27) and 0.12 (0.03, 0.22), respectively. However, the associations of diastolic BP and LVM were not significant. Conclusion: Systolic BP is highly associated with LVM and elevated BP could increase the LVM in children. Boys with elevated BP present a larger LVM and might indicate higher risk of left ventricular hypertrophy in adulthood.

RESUMEN

Objective: The study is to explore the association between trunk fat index (TFI) and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) among children aged 6-8 years old in Shunyi District, Beijing. Methods: The participants were enrolled from the child cohort on sensitization, puberty, obesity and cardiovascular risk (PROC) conducted in Shunyi District, Beijing from October 2018 to June 2019. The PROC used a community-based census-like design, and all eligible first-grade children from six public non-boarding primary schools in urban area were approached. Finally, a total of 1 503 children with written informed consent from parents and had complete data of TFI and cIMT were included for the present study. Sequential baseline surveys including anthropometric measurements, laboratory testing and ultrasonography measurement were conducted to collect the data on height, weight, body composition, blood pressure, serum lipids and cIMT. Linear regression was used to determine the predictors of cIMT, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to determine the cut-off value of TFI to identify children with high cIMT, and analysis of covariance was used to evaluate the post-consistency classification of cIMT by TFI. Results: The age of 1 503 participants was (6.7±0.3) years, and 752 boys accounted for 50.0%. The average cIMT was (0.358±0.024) and (0.355±0.023) mm, and the M (P25, P75) of TFI was 0.70 (0.22, 1.78) and 0.74 (0.23, 1.52) kg/m2 for boys and girls, respectively. The detection rates for boys and girls of high cIMT were 2.1% and 3.3%, respectively. Linear regression analysis showed that height, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), TFI were positively correlated with cIMT in boys (P values<0.05). And height, SBP, triglyceride (TG), TFI were positively correlated with cIMT, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was negatively correlated with cIMT in girls (P values<0.05). ROC curve analysis indicated that the best cut-off values for TFI to identify children with high cIMT were 1.78 and 1.14 kg/m2, at P75 and P66 for boys and girls, respectively. After grouped with the cut-off value of TFI and adjusted for age, height, SBP, DBP, TG, HDL-C, multivariable covariance analysis showed a consistent cut-off of inter-group cIMT mean by TFI groups (P values<0.005). Conclusion: TFI is associated with cIMT, which underscore its application potential in identifying early vascular structural damage.

RESUMEN

Objective: The study intends to identify gap in HIV/AIDS awareness dissemination between the official channel delivery and the needs of adolescents. Methods: We crawled all the HIV/AIDS queries from "Baidu zhidao" till June 11st, 2018. "Baidu zhidao" inquiry and information form official public service announcement (abbreviated for "official delivery" hereafter) were the data source for comparative analysis. We categorized the text data into four kinds, "prevention", "testing and treatment", "symptoms and infection" and "legalization and policies" according to official categorization. Word segmentation was used for text mining and word frequency statistics, as well word cloud was used for word frequency visualization (all based on a comparison after removing the useless words). Results: Of the official delivery, the proportion of prevention category accounted for 32.3% (n=162) (ranks 1st), and the proportion of legalization and policies category was 14.1% (n=71). While among the "Baidu zhidao" inquiry information, the proportion of testing and treatment category accounted for 51.7% (n=51 264), and the proportion of prevention category accounted for 11.4% (n=11 272). The frequencies of same terms/ repeated terms of two channels accounted for 60% (59.3%-63.9%) of each category among the official delivery, of which, the proportion of interest terms comparatively less and more diverse in "Baidu zhidao" inquiries. The proportion of the terms frequency of each category was about 45% in "prevention, testing and treatment", 34.3% (n=14 781) in "symptoms and infection" and 17.0% (n=5 744) in "legalization and policies", respectively. Conclusion: A big gap was identified between the available official source and inquiries' term, especially word frequency discrepancy between "legalization and policies" and "prevention" categories. It underscore the necessity for the official channel to address the needs and interests of adolescents in the future.

RESUMEN

Objective: To understand the prevalence of asthma and its variation over time in children aged 0-14 years in China. Methods: The studies on the prevalence of asthma in children in China were systematically retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang Data, China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP) and PubMed databases. The search time was up to June 2019, and the study site was located in the asthma surveillance cities. Random effect model was used to calculate the combined prevalence of asthma and its 95% confidence interval (CI). The subgroup analysis was conducted by period, sex and region. All analyses were performed by using Stata 15.1 and R Studio software. Results: Among 2 624 articles, 67 met the eligibility criteria, and the survey time was from 1989 to 2015. A total of 1 661 076 children were involved and 40 737 asthma cases were confirmed from 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The prevalence of asthma varied greatly among different studies, ranging from 0.5% to 9.82%. Meta-analysis showed that the combined prevalence of asthma in Chinese children aged 0-14 was 2.6% (95%CI: 2.1%-3.1%), about 3.2% (95%CI: 2.6%-3.8%) for boys and 1.9% (95%CI: 1.6%-2.3%) for girls. The subgroup analysis showed a significant variation of the prevalence over different years, genders and regions (P<0.05). The prevalence of asthma in boys was consistently higher than that of girls. The overall prevalence of asthma showed an upward trend. Before 2010, the prevalence of asthma in the eastern region was higher than that in the central and western regions. The prevalence of asthma across regions showed a significant change and the prevalence of asthma in the central region was significantly higher than that in the eastern and western regions from 2010 to 2015 (P<0.05). Conclusion: The asthma prevalence of children aged 0-14 in China is generally increasing, and the prevalence rate of boys is higher than that of girls. The prevalence rate in the central region is significantly higher than that in the eastern region from 2010 to 2015, suggesting that those regions should strengthen the early prevention and intervention of asthma and implement a sex-specific information dissemination strategy.

RESUMEN

Objective: This study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with pelvic organ prolapse (POP) in a representative sample of Chinese urban women. Methods: A total of 29613 Chinese urban women were recruited to this cross-sectional study between February 2014 and March 2016. The prevalence of POP, defined as any stage Ⅱ or higher POP resulting in symptoms, was assessed using questionnaires and physical examinations. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess factors associated with POP. Results: 2 864 of 29 613 women (9.67%) had POP. The prevalence of POP increased with age ranging from 1.23% (82/6 646) of women aged between 20 and 29 years to 26.11% (727/2 784) for those aged 70 years or older (P<0.000 1). Overweight and obese women were more likely to have POP than normal weight women [AOR=1.56, 95%CI 1.42-1.72 vs AOR=1.74, 95%CI 1.48-2.03]. In the multivariate analysis, the independent risk factors were cough (AOR=1.70, 95%CI 1.44-2.02), constipation (AOR=2.05, 95%CI 1.82-2.32), physical disease (AOR=1.27, 95%CI 1.15-1.41), and gynecological diseases (AOR=2.08, 95%CI 1.89-2.29). Nulliparous (AOR=0.12, 95%CI 0.06-0.22) and caesarean section (CS) (AOR=0.55, 95%CI 0.47-0.64) were protective factors for POP. Conclusions: POP affects nearly 10% of women in Chinese urban region. The prevalence of POP increases significantly with age. The independent risk factors for POP are body mass index, cough, constipation, physical disease and gynecological diseases. Nulliparous and CS are protective factors for POP.

RESUMEN

Modified biochars, including magnetic biochars, have been tested in water for the removal of inorganic pollutants. However, at present it is unknown if they possess benefits over conventional biochar materials in relation to land remediation. A paddy soil was collected near Liantang village in Lechang Pb-Zn mine area in Guangdong Province (China). The soil was polluted with Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb, with total contents of 1.4mg/kg, 80mg/kg, 1638mg/kg and 2463mg/kg, respectively. We prepared magnetic and conventional biochar from two feedstocks (poultry litter and Eucalyptus) at a temperature of 300 and 500°C. A sequential extraction procedure for the speciation of heavy metals and a phytotoxicity test using rice were performed. Acid-soluble Cd in soils amended with PLB was 8 to 10% lower than in the control polluted soil. This figure was 27 to 29% for acid-soluble Zn and 59 to 63% for acid-soluble Cu. In some cases, differences were found between the heavy metal fractionation in samples amended with magnetic and conventional biochars. Plant biomass was unaffected by most treatments, but increased by 32% in the treatments containing magnetic poultry litter biochar. Our study shows that a careful choice of feedstock is of utmost importance for successful containment of heavy metals in a multi-contaminated mining area soil. An appropriate choice of feedstock (in the case of this study poultry litter vs. eucalyptus) was more determinant with respect to the mobility of pollutants than altering pyrolysis temperature or modifying surface properties through magnetization. However, surface modification through magnetization can have a significant impact on plant yield and offer comparative advantages in the management of some degraded landscapes.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of poly(ethylene glycol)methacrylate(PEG)-arginine-glycine-aspartic(RGD)polymer brushes graft on bacterial adhesion and MC3T3 osteoblast cell attachment on titanium, and to investigate if the modification of titanium will enable the implant to be anti-fouling and promot osteointegration. METHODS: PEG was tethered on titanium surface modified with 2-bromoisobutyryl bromide(denoted as Ti-Br)to form Ti-PEG brushes. Functionalization of the Ti-PEG surface with RGD was performed to form Ti-PEG-RGD brushes. The chemical composition of modified titanium surfaces was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). Changes in surface hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity were characterized by static water contact angle measurements. Streptococcus mutans(Sm), Actinomyces naeslundii(An)and osteoblast cell were cultured on pure titanium(Ti), Ti-PEG, Ti-PEG-RGD surfaces respectively. There were ten samples in each group. The bacterial adhesion ability and cell attachment were confirmed by fluorescence microscopy and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). RESULTS: The static water contact angle of Ti, Ti-Br, Ti-PEG, Ti-PEG-RGD was less than 10°, 80°, 45°, 55° respectively. XPS confirmed that PEG-RGD brushes were successfully tethered on titanium surfaces. Anti-bacterial test showed that on the pure-Ti, there were large amount of bacteria from both groups, however, in the Ti-PEG, Ti-PEG-RGD surfaces, both kind of bacteria were rare and distributed diffusely. Cell culture test showed that on the Ti-PEG-RGD surfaces, the number of cells was significantly more than that on the Ti and the Ti-PEG surfaces. CONCLUSIONS: PEG can inhibit both kind of bacteria adhesion and osteoblast cell attachment, and PEG-RGD brushes can not only inhibit bacterial adhesion but also promote osteoblast cell attachment.

RESUMEN

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common progressive neurodegenerative disorder with increased oxidative stress, the underlying vital process contributing to cell death. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA), a major bioactive diterpene quinone of Salva miltiorrhiza, had been proved effective in the MPTP model through its anti-inflammatory activity. Here in this research, we found that Tan IIA prevented the loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons by activating the NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway. The cytotoxicity of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) was attenuated by the treatment of Tan IIA in SH-SY5Y cells, which significantly reduced 6-OHDA-induced lactic dehydrogenase release and reactive oxygen species production. Further study indicated that Tan IIA contributed to the nuclear accumulation of Nrf2, which bound to the ARE sequence, and activated ARE-regulated genes, including heme oxygenase-1, glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) and glutamate cysteine ligase modifier subunit (GCLM). Tan IIA also protected against damage to mitochondrial membrane potential, reduced the translocation of cytochrome c from the mitochondria to the cytoplasm and the activation of Caspase-9 and Caspase-3. Moreover, we demonstrated the above effects were performed in Nrf2-dependent manner. Further studies revealed that Tan IIA reduced the enhancement of miR-153 by 6-OHDA, which targeted the 3'-UTR of Nrf2, and suppressed its expression and activation. Additionally, neurodegeneration caused by in vivo stereotaxic injection of 6-OHDA could also be ameliorated by the administration of Tan IIA. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that Tan IIA may be beneficial for the treatment of PD, and also confirm that targeting the Nrf2/ARE pathway is a promising strategy for therapeutic intervention in PD.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This work aims to investigate the application of high definition flow imaging (HD-flow) in fetal hemodynamics, and establish reference range of hemodynamic parameters in fetal with different gestational ages. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A thousand of normal pregnant women were divided into five groups: 18-22, 23-27, 28-32, 33-37, and 38-40 gestational weeks. Color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) and HD-flow were adopted to display the heart structure and measure the blood flow velocity. The pulmonary vein display results were scored. The results of HD-flow and CDFI were compared. RESULTS: The catheter peak velocity of fetal mitral, tricuspid, aortic, pulmonary artery, aortic arch, ductal arch, the inferior vena cava, pulmonary vein, and venous catheter increased continuously with the increase of gestational age, showing a linear correlation. HD-flow was superior to CDFI on the display of pulmonary vein in 18-22, 23-27, and 28-32 weeks (p < 0.05), but was not in 33-37 and 38-40 weeks. HD-flow was an accurate positioning method for the pulmonary veins. CONCLUSION: HD-flow can make accurate evaluation of fetal hemodynamics and the demonstration of low blood flow, such as pulmonary venous, is better than CDFI. Pulmonary veins can be accurately positioned with HD-flow. HD-flow can demonstrate the main blood vessels of the whole fetal circulation and can display the spatial relationship of the blood vessels. It is of important clinical significance in hemodynamic study.

RESUMEN

Huanglongbing (HLB), also known as citrus greening, is currently the most destructive citrus disease. Anatomical analyses of HLB-affected sweet orange were carried out by light and electron microscopy. As compared with healthy citrus, the phloem plasmodesmata were plugged with callose, and in some samples the phloem was collapsed. Chloroplast structures were deformed. Prophage sequences occupy a significant portion of the genome of 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus' and have been used to distinguish strains from Yunnan and Guangdong provinces in China and Florida. Interestingly, a large number of possible putative phage particles were observed attached on the surface of 'Ca. L. asiaticus' cells in plants inoculated with strain FJ3 from Fujian Province, China. Phage particles have been observed previously only in periwinkle plants artificially inoculated in Florida with 'Ca. L. asiaticus' that carried the SC1-type prophage. PCR assays verified the presence of the SC1-type prophage sequences previously described from this bacterium in Florida in the FJ3 isolate. This is the first time that suspected phage particles have been observed in sweet orange trees infected with 'Ca. L. asiaticus.'

RESUMEN

Eureka lemon (Citrus limon) is an economically important crop in China. In 2009, a new disease was observed on Eureka lemon in an orchard of Ruili city in Yunnan Province. Nearly 10% of the plants were symptomatic with yellow vein clearing on lateral veins, combined with leaf crinkling and warping of young leaves. Water-soaked appearances were also seen on the adaxial leaf veins. The symptoms were present on mature leaves, resulting in almost 20% yield reduction. The symptoms on leaves were more severe in spring and autumn than in summer. This disease was transmitted by grafting from infected Eureka lemon to six lemon (C. limon) varieties (Femminello, Fino, Villafranca, Verna, Kutdiken, and Monachello) and two sour orange (C. aurantium) varieties (Daidai, Morocco), with inoculated plants showing similar symptoms. Variable symptoms were observed on other hosts, including severe yellowing and vein clearing on Dweet tangor (C. reticulata × C. sinensis), slight vein clearing on Tongshui 72-1 sweet orange (C. sinensis) and Marsh grapefruit (C. paradisi), but no symptoms were observed on Etrog citron (C. medica), Mexican lime (C. aurantifolia), or Ponkan (C. reticulata). When infected branches from Etrog citron, Mexican lime, and Ponkan were grafted onto healthy Morocco sour orange, typical yellowing and vein clearing symptoms were observed. In the mechanical transmission trials using eight herbaceous plant species, leaf rolling, shrinking, and pointed necrosis were observed on Vigna unguiculata, slight leaf rolling symptoms were observed on Capsicum frutescens, whereas Lycopersicum esculenum, Nicotiana benthamiana, Momordica charantia, Solanum melongena, Cucumis sativus, and Sesamum indicum remained symptomless. Symptom expression was influenced by temperature, being visible between 18 and 24°C but disappearing over 32°C. Crude extracts from young symptomatic lemon leaves were negatively stained for transmission electron microscopy observation (1) and showed filamentous virus particles of 13 to 15 × 400 to 1,000 nm. The described combination of symptoms in citrus species and herbaceous indicators, and virus morphology revealed by electron microscopy, suggested presence of Citrus yellow vein clearing virus (CYVCV). RNA extractions were made from 52 samples of Eureka lemon with yellow vein clearing symptoms. A one-step RT-PCR using primer pair (sense: 5'-TACCGCAGCTATCCATTTCC-3' and antisense: 5'-GCAGAAATCCCGAACCACTA-3'), designed from coat protein gene of CYVCV genome (GenBank Accession No. JX040635) (1), was performed. All of the symptomatic samples yielded the expected cDNA fragment and no amplicon was obtained from healthy plants. Three PCR amplicons were selected for cloning and sequencing. BLAST analysis showed that these nucleotide sequences (KJ859679 to 81) had greater than 97% nucleotide identity with the corresponding region of CYVCV reference genome (2), and therefore, this disease was associated with CYVCV. Symptoms resembling CYVCV infection were observed in China before (3); however, to our knowledge, this is the first proven report of CYVCV present in China. The identification of the pathogen now allows for appropriate field management and control measures. References: (1) V. Grimaldi et al. 13th IOCV Conference, 343-345, 1996. (2) G. Loconsole et al. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To explore the feasibility of using enhanced-flow (e-flow) imaging technology to identify fetal pulmonary veins and establish gestational age-specific reference values at 12-40 weeks' gestation. METHODS: The pulmonary venous internal diameter, peak systolic and diastolic flow velocities and visualization rate were analyzed in 332 normal fetuses at 12-40 weeks of gestation. Two-dimensional gray-scale (2D) ultrasound, color Doppler and e-flow imaging were used to detect the pulmonary veins in the four-chamber view by taking the lung as the penetration window. RESULTS: The pulmonary veins could be visualized as early as 12 weeks' gestational age by e-flow imaging. The right and left pulmonary venous internal diameters and peak systolic and diastolic flow velocities increased with increasing gestational age. Between 12 and 40 gestational weeks, the internal diameter and both the systolic and diastolic flow velocities of the fetal right pulmonary vein were significantly larger than were those of the left vein (P < 0.05). Of 118 fetuses at 12-22 gestational weeks, the visualization rate of the four pulmonary veins (left superior and inferior, right superior and inferior) was 5.9% (7/118) by 2D ultrasound, 41.5% (49/118) by color Doppler and 61.9% (73/118) by e-flow imaging. The visualization rate by e-flow imaging was significantly higher than that using the other two techniques (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: e-flow imaging is apparently a feasible and promising technology with which to identify the fetal pulmonary veins in the early stages of the second trimester.
